Roscoff to Geneva

Follow my first journey exploring what it means to be European by bike, starting in June 2017 soon after article 50 was triggered. Then Macron had just been elected. During the first week, the London Bridge terrorist attack occurred, the general election followed and then Grenfell a week after. You can read about people’s views on Brexit and Europe in France, as well as their reaction to events at home.

Rome to Athens

Cycling from one ancient civilisation to another - here you can read about what people on the southern fringes of the continent think about the EU and what it means to be European, as well as their views on the Five Star Movement in Italy and the refugee crisis in Greece.

Belfast to Dublin

Setting off from Belfast to Derry/Londonderry, then on to Donegal before turning back and heading east towards Dublin, I explore how on the island of Ireland claiming to be European or not, has become a political declaration.

Strasbourg to Cologne

Strasbourg, Kehl, Rastet, Speyer, Worms Wienheim, Nierstein, Frankfurt then along the Rhine again towards Bacharach, Koblenz, Bonn and Cologne,

Paris to London

Paris following the Seine then on to Pontoise, Bailleul-sur-Therain, Beauvais, Rotangy, Amiens, Vignacourt, Maintenacy, Le Bouquet, then up the coast in a bitter North wind towards Boulogne, Escalles, Calais, Dover, Kingstown, Deal, Sandwich, Monkton, planet Thanet, Margate, Graveney, Faversham, Sittingbourne, Iwade, Minster on Sea, Leysdown on Sea, Sittingburne (again - I know!) Gillingham, chatham, Gravesend, then following the route 1 cycle towards London.
